People who consume high doses of vitamin C do not show the expected mental and physical signs of stress, which often manifests as, but not limited to, communicable disease.
These are the people that despite the snifflers and sneezers that surround them, seem to repel viruses or overcome quickly and more efficiently then most of society.
Vitamin C has been proven time and time again to be able to reduce physical, even the kind of stress intentionally inflicted from vigorous exercise!
Now before you use this information as an excuse to avoid the gym, it is important to realize that your car cannot travel 50 miles if there is only 20 miles worth of gas in the tank. The message here is that you have to keep up with the vitamin C demand your personal life is creating. Doing so is an incredibly wise precaution that will keep you “up” for the challenges that your busy life presents even if the demand is caused by what you do at the gym.
Vitamin C decreases the levels of free radicals generated during exercise, but the magic is derived from the dose!!! (Three exclamation marks needed)
Think back to the last time you burned the candle at both ends…Doesn’t matter what caused that stress in your life, physical, mental, even utter joy can take a tole. What happened? Did you catch a cold, flu, bronchitis, sore throat, headache, pneumonia etc…? This wasn’t a fluke. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS! That unfortunate human gene mutation, millions of years ago, left you on our own to search for sufficient ways to obtain high doses of vitamin C throughout your day to effectively compensate for STRESS of all kinds.
It makes us crazy that one of our sons refuses to heed this message. He is 23 years old. He has youth on his side and a strong appetite for adventure. The world is his oyster and he wants to experience it all. While this is great, he is far too often, run down. Making matters worse, he doesn’t want to bother with supplementation because he doesn’t want to think about supplementation. After all, figuring out how to get to the Maldives or the like … is all he wants to think about and so he is forced to endure lots of colds.
While I am all for adventure, he doesn't realize that the frequent stuffy noses are just the beginning. Over time, if he doesn't consume enough vitamin C, he will unfortunately miss out due to not wizing-up. We're concerned because being home bound is not one of the destinations on his bucket list!
The take-away here is all about the impressive vitamin C dose, not to be confused with a confusing elusive dose…nor to want to quit exercising of course! Find your just-right-level ( by ideally reaching bowel tolerance) and feed your body vitamin C accordingly. You will find that both your body and immune system will serve you well.
